The accreditation that matters.
Slips Test is the slip resistance testing service of Surface Performance Ltd, a UK testing laboratory accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service to ISO/IEC 17025 — the international standard for the technical competence of testing and calibration laboratories.
UKAS ISO 17025 is not a marketing badge. It is the result of a documented quality management system, technical competency files for every staff member, calibration traceability for every instrument, and ongoing surveillance audits including unannounced witness audits where UKAS auditors observe live tests being performed. It is the reason our reports are accepted by insurers, regulators and the courts without further qualification.
20+ years of UK surface testing.
Surface Performance has been testing pedestrian surfaces in the United Kingdom for over two decades. Our work spans:
- UKAS ISO/IEC 17025 accredited slip resistance testing
- Pendulum slip testing to BS 7976-2 and BS EN 16165
- Surface roughness (Rz) testing to UKSRG Issue 5 guidance
- SlipAlert broad-area surveys correlated to PTV
- Expert witness reporting for slip-related personal injury claims
This depth of slip-testing work matters because slip resistance is rarely a problem in isolation. The factors that affect pendulum results — surface texture, contamination, cleaning regimes, installation quality — interact in ways that only experience teaches. We bring that experience to every slip test we conduct.
The team.
Field testing is performed by named, qualified technicians with documented training records — not subcontractors. Reports are written by experienced report authors and technically reviewed by a second competent person before sign-off. Every report is signed by an authorised signatory who carries personal accountability for the result.
Senior team members include UKSRG members, expert witnesses, and contributors to UK and European standards work. The combined technical experience exceeds 50 years.
Why we built Slips Test.
The UK slip resistance testing market has, frankly, become populated by a long tail of low-cost operators producing reports of questionable evidential value. We have seen too many cases where a "compliant" slip test, performed by an under-trained operator with un-calibrated equipment, has collapsed under expert scrutiny — leaving the commissioning client materially worse off than if they had commissioned no test at all.
Slips Test is our response. A UK-wide slip resistance testing service, performed exclusively under the UKAS ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation that distinguishes serious slip testing from the rest. No content-farm city pages with no real presence. No subcontracted technicians. No reports that won't survive the moments when survival is what they're for.
Our independence.
We do not sell anti-slip treatments, slip-resistant coatings, flooring products, or remediation services. We do not earn commission from any product manufacturer. This means our advice on what to do about a low PTV is genuinely independent — we have no commercial reason to favour one solution over another. Where we recommend remediation, we recommend on technical grounds and disclose all relationships up front.
How we quote.
Quotations are fixed-fee, all-inclusive of UK travel within agreed normal hours, and include the UKAS-accredited report. There are no hidden mileage charges, no out-of-hours surprises (those are quoted up front when relevant), and no separate charges for follow-up correspondence on the same project. We believe transparent pricing is part of the service.
